Data Deletion
Last updated: July 2026
1. Your Right to Erasure
Under Article 17 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), you have the right to request that we delete the personal data we hold about you. This is commonly known as the "right to be forgotten" or the "right to erasure".
In plain English: if you no longer want us to hold your personal information — for example, if you submitted an enquiry through our contact form and have since resolved your door repair, or if you simply change your mind about us processing your data — you can ask us to delete it. We will do so unless there is a legal reason we must keep it (see Section 2).
This right is not absolute. It applies in specific circumstances. We explain these below so you understand when we can fulfil your request and when we may need to retain certain data.
2. When It Applies and When It May Not
You have the right to request erasure of your personal data in the following circumstances:
- The data is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected;
- You withdraw your consent, and there is no other lawful basis for processing;
- You object to processing based on legitimate interests, and there are no overriding legitimate grounds for us to continue processing;
- The data has been unlawfully processed;
- Erasure is required to comply with a legal obligation.
There are circumstances where we may not be able to delete your data immediately or in full. These include where the data is necessary:
- To comply with a legal obligation (for example, retaining financial records for tax purposes);
- For the establishment, exercise, or defence of legal claims (for example, if there is an ongoing dispute relating to a repair);
- Where erasure would seriously impair the achievement of a public interest task (not typically applicable to our Service).
If any of these exceptions apply, we will explain which ones and why when we respond to your request. We will still delete as much of your data as we can.
3. How to Request Deletion
To request deletion of your personal data, please follow these steps:
- Send an email to privacy@sliding-door-repair.uk.
- Use the subject line "Data Deletion Request" so that we can identify and prioritise your request.
- In the body of your email, please include:
- Your full name;
- The email address or telephone number you used when submitting your enquiry;
- A brief statement that you are requesting erasure of your personal data under Article 17 UK GDPR.
- We may ask you to provide proof of identity before processing your request. This is to protect your data and ensure that we do not delete information at the request of someone impersonating you. Acceptable proof includes a copy of a driving licence, passport, or utility bill — we will advise you on what we need when we acknowledge your request.
4. What Happens Next & Timeline
Once we receive your deletion request:
- Acknowledgement: We will acknowledge receipt of your request promptly, typically within five working days. If we need proof of identity, we will ask for it at this stage.
- Processing: We will process your request and respond substantively within one calendar month of receiving it (or within one month of receiving satisfactory proof of identity, if requested).
- Extension: If your request is complex, or if you have submitted multiple requests, we may extend the response period by up to a further two months. We will inform you of any extension within the first month, together with the reasons for the delay. This is the statutory position under UK GDPR.
- Outcome: We will confirm that your data has been deleted, or — if an exception applies — we will explain which data we have retained, why, and for how long. We will also inform you of your right to complain to the ICO (see Section 7).
5. Data Passed to Independent Specialists
When you submit an enquiry, we share your details with the independent specialist matched to your job. That specialist is a separate data controller under UK GDPR and is responsible for their own handling of your data.
When you request deletion of your data from Sliding Door Repair UK, we will also notify the specialist who received your details and ask them to delete your personal data from their records, subject to any legal obligations they may have to retain it. However, because the specialist is an independent controller, you may also wish to contact them directly to request erasure from their systems.
If you need the specialist's contact details and do not have them, please mention this in your deletion request and we will provide them.
6. Other Rights
Erasure is one of several rights you hold under UK data protection law. You also have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you;
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances;
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format;
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
Full details of all your rights, including how to exercise them, are set out in our Privacy Policy, Sections 6 and 7.
7. Complaints to the ICO
If you are dissatisfied with how we have handled your deletion request — or with any aspect of our data processing — you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
We would, however, appreciate the opportunity to address your concern first. Please contact us at privacy@sliding-door-repair.uk before escalating to the ICO, and we will do our best to resolve the matter.
The ICO can be contacted via their website at ico.org.uk or by telephone on 0303 123 1113.
